Barking, eating, sleeping and sitting.

Almost 2 weeks in and Oskar is getting on very well. His appetite is good and he's being fed little and often (other 3 dogs very jealous).

He's great in his crate at night. Quiet and only a few 'toilet' incidents.

He stands next to the fridge when hungry and near any door when he wants to go to the loo.

He seems to have got the hand of 'sit' and is walking a little better on the lead (with harness) and still settles down brilliantly when in the car.

Seems to love our cats.....will take those introductions slooooowly :)

Training classes proper start over the next week or so and we're hoping to pop over and see some proper Vizsla type Trails tomorrow. Will update after weekend.

Vets and classes and razor teeth

So, Oskar has been registered with our local vets (Avenue Vets, Grantham) and he has been signed up for KC Good Citizen (...) classes that start at the end of April - so all is ticking along nicely.

A few things I have noticed thus far....:

In my ignorance I'd 'skilfully' forgotten how much energy pups have. Archie (12 this year) is the only other dog I've had from a pup. BUT it's not that bad. Keeping him amused is fine (lots of chewable toys and chicken wings to distract from chewing naughty stuff) and to be fair he sleeps (and snores) often throughout the day.

Blimey his teeth are sharp and I have the scars to prove it

The other three dogs are fine with him. Archie keeps out of his way, Milly ignores him...only Ben (attention seeking lab-x) puts him in his place and to be fair he needs that.

He is sleeping brilliantly and is quiet (and cosy and mostly clean) in his crate at night.

The key is to keep him busy and distracted - to wear him out (although walks are being kept short to let him grown into his gangly puppy legs). And with his harness on, he is being taken everywhere...and with that in mind....we're off out :)

A new home for Oskar.

Today, Oskar Tokaji Chatto d'Laney White (aged 14 weeks) moved in with us. We're a household comprising; my wife, myself and 3 dogs (Archie, 12, Ben @9 and Milly @9) and 7 (!) cats (Lily, Arthur, Tinker, Magic, Cocoa, Ignatius Beanz and Monty).

We'd been pondering a new, younger companion for our old dogs for a while and came across Hungarian Vizslas via a lovely Boarding Kennels we recently discovered (www.tothemanorbourne.com - all 4 dogs are booked in for a week's holiday at the end of this month).

Archie, Ben and Milly passed their 'meet and greet' test with Vicky (To the Manor Bourne's owner) the other weekend and last week I got in touch to say that the dogs were looking forward to staying and that we'd been very taken with her own Vizsla's and that maybe...if....she came across any pups we might be interested in one.

And after two speedy homechecks last week....well the rest is history.

Oskar has had a tour of the garden and a play and met the dogs (and two of the cats). And since then he's been asleep!

Benny has been putting him in his place and showing him who is boss.

We're going to use this blog to track and report his progress (training classes are being lined up!). And we'll try and post regularly about how he's getting on.
